THE ROOT OF SAMSARA
Master Ruma lectures at Nam Lum Leprosy Village
Luang Prabang – Laos PDR, September 24^th, 2009

Biography:

Ladies and gentlemen. First of all, I am much honored to represent for our group standing here to introduce you our great Master, Master Ruma. Master Ruma, born in Vietnam but he’s moved to live in America since he was very young. After that, when he was 18, understanding the sorrows that human beings have to suffer in this world, he decided to leave his family for India and Himalaya in Tibet to find the spiritual method which can help liberate the people from the life circle.

So the Master stepped his feet everywhere in India and Tibet just to find out the method that can help him find back his Buddha nature. Finally thanks to his determination, God brought him to a Master who had been waiting for him in the Himalaya range for a long time just to hand over this supreme method.

This method is called the Inner Light and Inner Sound meditation.

After staying there practicing it over years, Master Ruma came back to the United States and joined many charity organizations and associations where he did everything to help the poor people and refugees in different camps throughout Southeast Asia. At the same time, he still kept practicing this supreme method until one day he got full enlightenment.

Then he started his new journey in the role of a great spiritual Master who is advised by God to travel around the world helping needed people and teaching this method to anyone who really wants to escape from this physical world.

Hearing Laos is a beautiful Buddhist country which has many people who are really in need for both spiritual and physical life, Master Ruma does not mind traveling a long way to come here to bring love and blessing from God to local people.

He was so touched when knowing about this Nam Lum village from one of his disciples. He immediately asked us to arrange for him to visit it at any price.

That’s why we are present here today. Once again, may I have a great honor to introduce you our most beloved Master, Master Ruma.

Lecture:

Thank you. How are you? I went to find the enlightenment, the Buddha nature inside. Now I know where the Buddha stays. The Buddha is here, within you every day.

Today, I am very happy to see you again. I’ll pray for all people in this village a beautiful life, happiness and joys. Please always remember God so that after life, he’ll come to take you home.

This is the first time I’ve seen all of you again since the last meet very long time ago. Sometimes, I stay above and my tears come out. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what I should talk to you.

I speak to myself: “My God. Do all my friends remember me? Or after they were reborn in here, they just think they are human beings, poor and sick. They don’t remember who I am and when they see me again, they will just recognize me as a strange monk or a strange master coming here to visit them.”

It is very sad and suffering if you remember somebody but they don’t remember themselves. But that’s alright. I will pray for you every day. You are still my friends like you were in many past lives.

Do you agree? Do you feel I am close to you?
No, right? Oh my God. I know, I know. Because we were reborn as human beings again and again in many lives, we are blocked and we forget everything.

Sometimes I complained: “Why have you been reborn so many lives?” I told you before already: “Listen to me. Do something good and we will go back home in the heaven. Why were you reborn here? Too poor! You used to be kings, princesses and princes in many lives before”.

I told you: “Please come to the Buddha and pray to him every day”. But you did not. You enjoyed your materials. It’s alright. That’s not your fault but the karmas.

The Buddha is not angry with you. He will forgive you. The Buddha is always within us.

What I am telling you now is true. I know some of you here are quite puzzled. It is not easy for you to understand. Normally you may forget things happened a few years ago so how can you remember things of many lives before. That’s alright. Today, I come here to see you again and I wish you happiness, joys and peace with the rest of your life.

You don’t have to believe me. After life, I will come and take you home. It is very beautiful in the heaven. I tell the truth. It is quite difficult for you to understand and to believe what I said.

If you welcome me, I will come back again. OK? Yes or no?

Translator:They said: “They all welcome you”

Oh, they welcome me. Oh, OK. OK! Although this is just a small village but I feel very close to you like I have lived here for a very long time.

Because many lives before, we lived together when we were born in this country. That’s why I remember all of you here. I know you do not remember these things. I am so sad.

I came from a very faraway place, the United States of America, looking for you here.

After I had got out of my meditation, I said to my disciples: “Oh my God. I want to see my friends who were reborn in Laos.”

“They are a big group with a few hundred people there. They have nothing but sufferings. They are very poor, sad, sick, broken-hearted, unenlightened, etc.”

I asked the Buddha: “Please, why don’t you come there yourself to help them but ask me to go?”
“Why do you want me to go? How about you go?”
Then he answered me it is because you are my friends.

All of you have affinity with me. After I had got out of the meditation, I tried to forget you but I could not.

With our physical eyes, we can only see from here to there only. But with the wisdom eye, we can see through the whole universe. When you are enlightened, you can see the whole universe and many lives before.

Before my enlightenment, I had had a very good life. But I am very sincere and cried for the truth to be enlightened like the Buddha.

After I had been enlightened, I felt regretful. After I had opened my wisdom eye, I said “sorry” to myself. If I had known it was like that, I would not have wanted to be enlightened. I would like to live like you guys who do not remember who I am. And do not know who your neighbor is, in the last life, not now. It is very difficult to live like me now because your heart will be broken if you see your friend be reborn, poor and sick.

Sometimes, you do not know what to do for them. You may come to talk to them about the teachings of the Buddha but they do not understand or believe you.

You try to tell them: “Believe me, please and I will take you back home to the Buddha land” but they keep refusing you.

I know. It is very difficult to believe. That is alright. I believe and remember you. I came from the United States which is very far away. Maybe you understand how far it is.

In our Earth, we are suffering but in the heaven, there is a planet which is very beautiful. No one is suffering and they life is very beautiful. They have everything up there waiting for anyone who is sincere in praying for going home. That place is called “Buddha land”. Anybody can go there.

I have the key for you to open the door of the heaven. I call it the key of enlightenment. Having it, you can open the door of the heaven anytime. I have it now in my hand. I can offer you for free.

OK. Alright, thank you again and again. Today I come here in short time to visit you and share with you some spiritual issues. Everybody has the Buddha nature inside.

Every day, please remember your wisdom as well as who you are. Every day, just remember the Buddha. Keep praying every day, the Buddha is very close to you.

I stay with you every day, every second. I will never go away from you. Keep me in your heart and you will live very peacefully. Believe me, you do not lose anything.

You do not have to call me “Buddha” or “Master”. Just call me as your friend. I am your friend. I tell the truth.

Is it alright? Alright, thank you. I come here just a short time and I am going to pray for you. I don’t know what your belief is. All of you are Buddhists, right?

Can you close your eyes for a few minutes and pray to your Buddha inside and we will pray together to the Buddha for blessing this village and this country.

Close your eyes and remember the Buddha. Then, he will understand. With your sincere heart, he will know. Concentrate on your wisdom eye on your forehead. When you concentrate here, you can see. Just pray to the Buddha and he knows everything.

With your heart, OK?

“The Light and Sound Meditation Method is a spiritual meditation method, contemplating on our internal vibrations, i.e. listening to the vibrations of our inner sounds. Light and sound are both from God. Light represents enlightenment. Seeing the light in meditation means we are enlightened. You can experience this when you are initiated."

“You can more easily follow the dharma if you can harmonize the real life work and your inner spirit. It is difficult to achieve this if you do not follow the five precepts.”

“You are busy the whole day with your work. You have various thoughts wandering around, and you are very busy earning your living and trying to support your family - how then could have enough time for meditation? However, if you do not meditate everyday, it is very difficult to make a true progress.”

“The main purpose for compliance with the Five Precepts is to cultivate the purity of your Movement-Word-Idea continuum in the way you communicate, your ideology, and your actions in your daily life. You need to be very prudent and aware in all aspects and you should not do things like lying, stealing or harming others.”

“ We must approach all people with our noble compassion, our bright wisdom, our immense affection, and pure action and ideology. This is the way of all disciples of the true Dharma.”

“If you want to properly follow the Five Precepts you need to achieve absolute serenity. Everyday, we have the self-check the three essential aspects of “ideology, word and action” and evaluate if we have achieved genuine virtue. We need to be sincere with ourselves, our parents, siblings, spouse, children, friends, neighbors, fellow disciples, and everyone we meet.”

“When you make a mistake you should sincerely admit and confess to yourself. Confession does not mean you torture or fine yourself, but rather that you make a conscious effort to understand what you did wrong, what you need to do to correct it, and how you can try to avoid such a mistake in the future. This is the way of the enlightened mindset.”
