Blessing at the end of life

Master Ruma visited and lectured at a nursing home in Udon Thani province-the Kingdom of Thailand

17 October 2013

A few days after Master Ruma arrived in Udon Thani, on the 17th of October 2013, he visited and lectured at at a nursing home in the Udon province. Mr Seri Vongvilaivarin, the current President and Mr Wiroj Chamnanrit, Vice President, showed up early to warmly welcome the Master.

Mr Seri Vongvilaivarin, the current President and Mr Wiroj Chamnanrit, President respectfully greeted the Master during his visit.

The Master stepped into the hall which was a warm room, walking through each row of wheel chairs where elderly people were waiting for him. We (the Master’s disciples) were very touched with compassion, delight and sympathy for these people. We sympathized for those living on this earth have suffered loneliness, carelessness but we also felt delighted that at the end of life, they had a chance to meet a true living Master. This is a huge blessing for their lives. Looking at people here, we were told by the Director about the introduction of the nursing home. The nursing home was founded by Christians in 1976 in Banchit, next to the Udon province, and is intended to help and take care of elderly people and those having no families or relatives, regardless of their religion, nationality until they pass away.

This foundation is now available around the world, not only helping elderly people but also caring for poor and orphaned children. In the beginning, it was built as a small house with enough space for 10 overseas Vietnamese migrating to Thailand. They all lost their wives and children, and had no relatives. They all lived together in there. After that, due the increase in the number of inhabitants, the nursing home was moved to the Udonthani and built in 2002. It has been operating until now.

The Master closed his eyes and paid attention to the introduction. Althought he didn’t show his emotion, but his expression of solemnity and kind face showed the compassion which could not be hidden. With the wisdom eye of a true living Master, he knew for sure why these people here had to suffer such difficulties.

The Master wanted everyone to feel the compassion in his proximity, so he started the Dharma talk by recalling his childhood:

“I am Vietnamese, but I grew up in America. I was fortunate to live in a Christian family. My parents often took me to the church every Sunday. You may wonder why I grew up in a Christian family In this life, you have to live alone and have no relatives because what you did in a previous life, you will now receive. I come here to share and remind you to forget the past, forgive everyone and forgive yourself, look forward to a peaceful, delighted and healthy life, for the rest of your life. God is always beside us. God is the loving kindness and compassion and always protects us…

and then I practiced Buddhism right? Because, no matter what the religion is, it is just the physical form, outside only. The reason I came in here is to visit and wish you all bliss for the rest of your lives. Life is very short with much suffering and difficulty whether you have religion or not, you will still find it very hard to seek liberation."

Master Ruma wishes all people in the nursing home a life of peace, happiness and health, for the rest of their life

Among the listeners, there were people who were lucky to understand the Master’s words. There were, however, also people who could not understand anything because they are too old. Some were unable to walk, had to sit on wheel chairs, some didn’t even remember themselves. However, as the Master said: “Our true nature is very lucid, full of compassion and loving kindness from the universe.” We believe that Buddha nature inside them will be very delighted to receive the Master’s precious advice. What the Master brought today is not only his compassion and financial donation, but above all, the Master presented a precious spiritual gift for all people here and this is the best and last gift for their lives.

The atmosphere in the hall seemed to be warmer and blissful when people all sang a song together to offer the Master on the occasion of his vist. Notably, there was a special performace given by an elderly lady. She couldn’t remember who she was, but still tried to finish a love-song offered for the Master. To their souls, the Master is a great spirutal Father; therefore they would love to express their sincere gratitude through plain and simple doings.

Everyone in the nursing home sang a song together in order to express their sincere thanks for the Master’s visit and help .

The lady could not remember her name, but she still manages to remember the lyrics and offers the song to the Master.

The Master smiled, looking at everyone with boundless compassion and expressed a wish before leaving: “I just have a few things to remind you, try to live wholeheartedly for the rest of your lives. When the last chapter of your life approaches, I will represent God coming to take you back to the kingdom of God. You will never be alone. This loneliness is created by the mind only; you are always side by side with heavenly celestials, God and Buddha. At the end of your life, God will come to take you home. This is what I want to say to you. Because when you are suffering, you don’t remember God or the Universe. But when you look backon it, you will see God is very beautiful…”

Everybody pays due attention to the Master’s reminders

The Master donates US $1,000 to the nursing home, partially sharing his compassion and sympathy for elderly people.

The Master also shared that although he is a spiritual monk, he doesn’t receive offerings for himself. All the property that the Master inherited from his parents or donations from disciples throughout the world, he has given it all to human beings. The Master has traveled everywhere to help those who live in porvety and suffering, and share the compassion and blessing of God through reminding everyone to remember their great Buddha nature inside them, eating vegan food and practicing spiritual meditation to refind the path of liberation. The Master also expressed his appreciation for the compassionate doings of the volunteers here who have contributed 37 years to the nursing home.

The nursing home in the Udonthani province is home to 38 elderly people. Some has passed away. At the moment, there are 25 people living here.

After Master Ruma’s visit, seeing the compassion that he gave to the elderly people, we remembered the stories that the Master told us about his time living in the US. At that time, he was a volunteer and often went to the nursing home, taking care of, combing, and doing manicures and pedicures for the elderly people. They all loved him. If there was a chance, the Master managed to help them. At the time, the Master was not enlightened yet. Now, he is a true living Master, a living Buddha. What he has brought to the elderly people wherever he set foot is much more than before. The compassion and blessing from God through the Master’s supreme talk are infinite and precious reminders that nothing in this life could describe or compare. We feel very happy for these people here because at the end of their lives, they still get the great blessing. We hope that anyone who has the same destiny, also has the honour to meet the Master in person, although once in a lifetime.
